The basics to being an idea machine:
1️⃣ Be in the right environment
- Surround yourself with People who are optimistic about the future, creative about solutions, and have high idea flux (lots of ideas in and out). People with few filters and don't care what others think. This important because the best ideas are fragile!
- Stay away from people who the world has beaten down, live in the past, and don't support your ideas.
2️⃣ Recognize tectonic shifts happening right now
- These shifts are where the leading edge of the world is. Examples for today include: AR, autonomous vehicles, no-code, etc.
- These make good opportunities because the big company's are too slow to beat faster moving startups!
- To identify these shifts, ask yourself: What wasn't possible last year, but is possible this year?
3️⃣ Think about what you're well suited for
- Founder company fit is as important as product market fit!
🧵 Unbundling
Look at big things and unbundle what they do, then innovate with the components.
Big companies become victims of their own success and can't move quick to innovate their components!
⚙️ Reverse Engineer
By seeing how someone else makes something, you realize what is possible!
📣 Listen to Communities
It can be hard to track moving innovations and growing industries, so how can you learn about the opportunities there? Listen to the people that use the products/services:
- Relevant sub-Reddits
- Forums around a space
